Muralist, sculptor and architect Eric Gugler studied for three years at the American Academy in Rome after graduating from Columbia University. Back in the United States, he established an office in New York City, but his practice was not limited to New York; nor was it limited to architecture. References to Gugler's work can be found in the Warren Powers Laird Collection of the University of Pennsylvania Architectural Archives.
