Born: 1874

German-born Hermann V. von Holst chiefly operated in Chicago although he had earned his architectural degree from MIT. In Chicago he became acquainted with Frank Lloyd Wright; and when Wright departed the area with Mrs. Cheney, von Holst purchased a portion of the Wright architectural practice. In this role he and Marion Mahony completed a number of the early Wright commissions, such as the Adolph Mueller House in Decatur, IL.

von Holst remained in the Chicago area, teaching at the Armour Institute of Technology and exhibiting with some regularity (1905, 1906, 1907) with the Chicago Architectural Club Exhibitions.
