The office of Appleton & Burrell, builders, contractors and carpenters, appears in the Philadelphia city directories from 1899 to 1912 at 1204 Chancellor Street. After 1912 Charles J. Appleton disappears from the directories, but Horace H. Burrell continues at the same address as a builder.

Contracts noted in the Philadelphia Real Estate Record and Builders Guide indicate a specialty in factory construction.
