Born: 6/25/1884, Died: 11/8/1938 Born in Bradford, Yorks, England, the son of Minerva and William Walker, John A. Walker attended one year oat Bradford Technical College, supplemented by some five years in the Bradford Technical evening school. He worked for Cram & Ferguson of Boston for nine years, but he appears in the Philadelphia city directories from 1925 to 1930. From 1922 through 1927, according to professional directories and entries in the Philadelphia Real Estate Record and Builders Guide, he was associated with the firm of Walker & Carswell, partnering with Harold Thorp Carswell; however, this firm had actually begun in 1918, according to Walker's application for membership in the AIA. Since Carswell, Walker, and Robert Tappan had come to the Philadelphia area by 1915 in order to work on Cram & Ferguson's design for the Bryn Athyn Cathedral and had elected to stay here rather than return to Boston, it is not surprising that an alliance would have sprung up among the three.
