Robert Tappan is one of a team of architects assembled by the Boston firm of Cram & Ferguson to work on Bryn Athyn Cathedral for Raymond Pitcairn. According to E. Bruce Glenn, "Robert Tappan (who had been Cram's man on or near the site from the outset) was to exercise charge over the exterior and interior naves, aisles, porches, and tower." Later Tappan is mentioned in a typescript obituary written by George I. Lovatt, Sr. for Harold Carswell, also a member of the Bryn Athyn team, in which he mentions that Carswell associated with Tappan on residential design in New York.
