John M. Hewitt appears in the 1906 Philadelphia city directory as an architect with an office at 671 Bullitt Building, the same address supplied for G. W. and W. D. Hewitt for that year. Given the coincidence of address and John M. Hewitt's residence in New Jersey, it is surmised that he was a member of the architectural branch of the Hewitt family.
