Little is known of John L. Coneys, although it is apparent from both his city directory listings and projects noted in the Philadelphia Real Estate Record and Builders Guide that he enjoyed a long and prolific career. Coneys attended the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art and by 1903 was employed as draftsman in the office of William L. Price. In 1905 Coneys appears for the first time in the city directories, with his occupation listed as draftsman; but his first listing in a professional directory occurs in 1908, when he is noted with an office at 15th and Walnut Streets, the same address as that given for D.K. Boyd. From drawings found in the collection of the Radnor Historical Society and from references in the PRERBG, it appears that some formal relationship existed between Boyd and Coneys for the years 1914 to 1922 at least; and it is possible that Coneys had been employed by Boyd for some time before his name was acknowledged on drawings. During his latter years in the Philadelphia city directories Coneys shares an office address with John Carlin from 1919 to 1930 and with L. Valentine Scherr from 1923 to 1930.
Coneys became a junior member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the AlA in 1908 and a member of the national AlA in 1911.
