OUR PARTNERS

Very little is known of the personal life of Charles E. Woodnutt although he enjoyed a distinguished career as the partner of architect/engineer George R. Stearns in Stearns, Woodnutt & Schmohl and Stearns & Woodnutt. Woodnutt (without the middle initial E.) appears in the Philadelphia city directories in 1903 as a salesman, residing at 649 North 45th Street. In 1905 and 1907 he returns to the directories, but without an occupation cited. In 1909 he reverts to salesman, but in the 1918 directory he has added an E. to his name and become a partner in Stearns, Woodnutt & Schmohl. From 1919 to 1930 the partnership of Stearns & Woodnutt operates from an office in the Girard Building, but following Stearns's retirement in 1930, Woodnutt disappears from city directories.
