Born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Frederick H. Cubberley, Francis J. Cubberley attended Germantown High School before studying at the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed a B. Arch. in 1927. Following graduation, Cubberley entered the office of Wallace & Warner. He was an associate in the office in 1942 when he left to join the practice of George Lovatt where he worked as a designer for less than a year. Cubberley then worked in the same capacity for Rankin & Kellogg, also remaining there briefly. In 1943, he joined the American Viscose Corporation, in Marcus Hook, PA, and remained with the company into the 1960s. He had retired by 1970. Cubberley joined the national AIA in 1935 and was a member of the Philadelphia Chapter.
