In 1874 George R. Pohl appears in Philadelphia city directories as a bookkeeper and in 1875 as an agent, both with office addresses at 307 Walnut Street. Thereafter, in 1876, he appears as a partner in the office of Schwarzman & Pohl with Herman J. Schwarzman in offices at 614 Chestnut Street. In 1877 and 1878 Pohl continues with an architectural occupation, but apparently works independently since the firm is not noted in his listing. In 1878 his office is noted as 118 South 7th Street.
