George U. Rehfuss received his B.S. in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania in 1894. He then worked for both Frank Miles Day & Bro. and for Cope & Stewardson before launching his own firm in Room 1012 of the Harrison Building. For several years (approximately 1899 to 1911) Rehfuss worked in association with Spencer Roberts; but since both architects also worked individually, it cannot be documented as a legal partnership. In the 1919/20 Philadelphia city directory, Rehfuss is also noted as an editor, and he did work as assistant editor for the Centurion, a newspaper, at the same time associating with Charles H. North on architectural work. Following Rehfuss's death, North continued to use his name in the firm of Rehfuss & North.
Rehfuss was a member of the T-Square Club, Overbrook Club, and the Century Club.
