Born: 7/1/1872, Died: 11/20/1945 William Cramp Scheetz, Sr., was born in Doylestown, PA, the son of Milton Diehl Scheetz and Mary Louise (Cramp) Scheetz. His mother was the daughter of the founder of Cramp's Shipyard (1831) and an earlier ancestor, Dr. Johaan Scheetz (Schutz) of Frankfort, Germany, was a member of the Frankfort Company which settled Germantown. He graduated from Central High School in 1892 and from the University of Pennsylvania in 1896. In that year he began work for Addison Hutton, thus assuring his future. In 1899 he established a partnership with Albert H. Savery, Hutton's nephew, under the name Savery & Scheetz. By 1904 this office had changed its name to Savery, Scheetz & Savery to acknowledge the addition of new partners. Following the death of both Saverys and of Addison Hutton, Scheetz became associated with Douglas Gilmour, using the name Savery, Scheetz & Gilmour. The firm expanded further in 1937 when William Cramp Scheetz, Jr., a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, was included.Scheetz was a member of the Union League and the Pennsylvania Society of the Sons of the Revolution. During World War I he was in charge of contracts for Cramp's Shipyard and of construction at the Alan Wood Steel Company.
