A native of Pomfret, CT, B. G. Goodhue moved to New York when he was only 15 to work with James Renwick. Trained by Renwick in ecclesiastical design, Goodhue won a competition in 1891 for a church in Texas. In order to carry out the design, he partnered with Ralph Adams Cram and Charles F. Wentworth, establishing Cram, Wentworth & Goodhue in 1892. After Wentworth died in 1897, the office became Cram, Goodhue & Ferguson, and this relationship lasted until around 1913 when Goodhue struck out on his own, still concentrating on church design.
