A prolific and varied partnership comprised of H. C. Hodgens and A. D. Hill, this office chiefly relied upon theatre design, but also produced a number of residences during its period of operation. Although little is known of partner Hill, Hodgens had come from Pittsburgh, where he associated with several well-known architects. After relocating to Philadelphia, Hodgens began to develop a specialty in theaters, a specialty which was also adopted by the partners. Hodgens's association with William Freihofer of the Freihofer Baking Co. also served the partners well, especially since Freihofer expanded into theater development in the 1920s.
