Born: 10/26/1874

Born in Ireland to James and Matilda (Adams) McClelland, David A. McClelland was educated in Philadelphia public schools and then studied mechanical engineering at the Franklin Institute and architecture at Spring Garden Institute. He began his independent building and contracting business on 18 January 1899 with a specialty in churches, schools, hotels and institutions. According to the 1927 Who's Who in Philadelphia he counted among his most important commissions Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, Olivet Reform Church, Ventnor Community Church (NJ), Bridgeton Hospital (NJ), Flanders Hotel (Ocean City, NJ), and Upper Darby High School (PA).
