Born: 11/20/1877

Born in Baltimore, MD, to John Godfrey and Margaret (Wagner) Jory, Herbert G. Jory graduated from Baltimore City College in 1896 and then the University of Pennsylvania in 1900. He associated with Benjamin B. Owens from 1896 to 1898, George Archer from 1900 to 1902, and the Supervising Architect of the U.S. Treasury from 1902 to 1911. In 1911 he established his own office in Baltimore and was a member of the Architectural Commission of the City of Baltimore from 1913 until 1919, when World War I interrupted his service to the city. He served in the Quartermaster's Corps of the U.S. Army from 1917 to 1919, rising to become Captain of the Construction Division. After the War he continued with the Quartermaster's Corps until 1937, rising to the rank of Colonel in the Reserves.

He joined the AIA in 1921.
