New York office York & Sawyer regularly participated in the annual T-Square Club/AIA Philadelphia Chapter exhibitions. Partners Edward Palmer York (1865-1927) and Philip Sawyer (1868-1949) had both trained in the office of McKim, Mead & White, and the designs produced by this office tended to be public work, created in a twentieth-century classical revival style. Their specialties were banks and hospitals.
