Institution

In order to enhance the understanding ot the region and its people, the Chester County Historical Society operates a museum with permanent and changing exhibits, has a libary and archives used for research in family history and other subjects, and conducts educational programs for children and adults.

Collections

Records relating to Chester County people, businesses, churches and schools, including deeds, title searches, clipping files, daybooks, account books, minute books, correspondence and manuscripts. Also includes materials dealing with Indians, Quakers and Blacks in the county.

Although the only architectural drawings are those of Ruth Hammond, the Historical Society also has files compiled for the Historic American Buildings survey. Not included in this entry are drawings of the Isabella Furnace (see also Historical Society of Pennsylvania's Potts Plans) and the photograph collections.
