20,000 cubic feet, primarily 1800-1975. Holdings include the records of more than 1,000 firms and the personal papers of the entrepreneurs who helped build them; the archives of the Conference Board and the National Association of Manufacturers; business and personal papers of the Du Pont Company and family. Companies represented range from the mercantile houses of the late 18th century, through the artisan workshops of the 19th, to the multi-national corporations of the 20th. Subjects include northeastern railways, energy development and utilization, iron and steel industries, banking and insurance, clothing and textiles, electric industry, high technology firms and the early computer industry. Also contains pictorial, audio-visual and artifact collections.
